JPRD offers many programs in June

The Jefferson park and recreation department will start the summer off with several programs starting in June! For more information on any of the following programs or to register visit the Greene County Community Center, 204 West Harrison, or call 515-386-3412.

Swim Lessons: Four different sessions of swim lessons will be offered at the Jefferson municipal pool. Lessons will begin the week of June 9. Funding through the Jumpstart Jefferson Region XII grant and the generous sponsorship of Home State Bank allow JPRD to offer three sessions of free swim lessons. Tumbling camp: Nicole Friess-Schilling and Jamie Leggitt will offer two levels of tumbling camp this summer. The beginners camp for 4 to 6 year old boys and girls will be held Monday, June 23 through Wednesday, June 25 from 9:30 to 10 am at the Greene County Community Center. The beginners course is limited to 20 registrations. The second camp will be held Monday, June 23 through Wednesday, June 25 from 10 to11:30 am for youngsters 7 years and up. It will be an intensive yet fun camp. Students will go through various workouts including beam, vault, floor, safety/strength/flexibility training and bar exercises. Pre-Sous Chefs: For the aspiring cook! Participants going into grades 3-6 will learn how to create healthy snacks and the basics of meal preparation and baking. This week long camp will meet from June 23-27 from 1 to 2:15 pm at the Community Center. Class is limited to 10. Click here for registration form: Pre-Sous Chefs

Art Camp: Have fun using your imagination during art camp. Class will meet Monday-Friday, June 16-20 at the Community Center. Youth going into pre-K through 2nd grade will met from 1to 1:45 pm. Participants going into 3rd-5th grade will meet from 2 to 2:45 pm. Each class is limited to 15 participants. Click here for registration form: Art camp

DMACC volleyball camp: DMACC head volleyball coach Patty Harrison and players will help participants learn and improve their volleyball skills June 10-12. Youngsters going into grades 4-6 will meet from 9:30-11:30 am and volleyball players going into grades 7-9 will meet from 1 to 3 pm at the Greene County Community Center. Golf instruction and league: Boys and girls 8-18 years old will receive golf instruction and then have the opportunity to play nine holes of golf each Wednesday, June 11- July 30. The group will meet at the Jefferson Community Golf Course from 9 am to 12 pm. Participants are asked to register by June 4. Click here for registration form: Golf instruction and league

Dino-Mite Bash: The Dino-Mite Bash is a fun one day event on Wednesday, June 25, for 3-6 year-old boys and girls. From 10 to 11:30 am participants will spend time creating, searching and playing dinosaur themed crafts and activities. Space is limited to 15 children. Click here for registration form: Dino-Mite

Summer fitness: The first session of fitness classes will begin the week of June 2. Available adult classes include Extreme Fit, Yoga, Interval Step and Tone and Tighten. Three new fitness training courses for youth going into grades 7-12 will be available—Starting Strength, Girls Gone Strong and Basketball Fit. Classes will run for five weeks.
